Story Generator Algorithms
On the narratological relevance of theories, models and applications
for the automatic generation of narratives
This research project on Story Generator Algorithms focuses on the possibility to integrate
computational approaches in the analysis and modelling of narrative functions.
It investigates the narratological relevance of theories, models and implementations
of programs that generate narrative.
Through a mutual mapping of narratological and Artificial Intelligence approaches
onto each other, it discloses their respective strengths and weaknesses.
The ultimate goal of the project team is to define a model of a creative Story
Generator Algorithm that will be 'ideal' from a narratological viewpoint,
without anyway disregarding implementability issues.
The Story Generator Algorithms project is a sub-project of the
Hamburg Narratology Research Group, now ICN,
co-funded by DFG and the University of Hamburg.
