  • Betraum Karnapp 1773-1860 (Prayer Room in Karnapp), in the house of the cabinet maker Heidmann.
  • Simon Behrens Foundation.
  • 1830 Community owned, Synagogue on the upper storey, accommodation for Kosher Butcher and Cantor on the ground floor.

In 1773, Simon Behrens, a wealthy member of the Harburg Jewish community, bought the house of the master cabinet maker Heidmann in Karnapp, and converted it into a synagogue. He was prepared to bequeath the synagogue to the community after his death on the condition that he, as donator, became chairman of the community and custodian of the poor box and that the right of place next to the Torah be auctioned the proceeds of which went to the poor box. This provoked a conflict within the community which, in 1773, led to the two factions worshipping at two separate locations. The conflict came to an end at the death of Behrens in 1805. In 1830 the chairman of the community bought the synagogue in Karnapp for the community, after the inheritors had sold the property to the master butcher Dreyer. The latter remained living on the ground-floor while the prayer room was on the first floor. In 1860 the partial collapse of a wall put the prayer room out of use. The building was demolished in 1864.
