III. Buildings Integral to the Former Life and/or Persecution of Jews in Hamburg - Hoheluft/Eimsbüttel.

No. 55 Eppendorfer Weg/No. 69 Eppendorfer Weg.

  • The Synagogue Eimsbüttel e.V.

This private synagogue was founded in 1876. It was accommodated in rented rooms. It was forced to disband in 1916 having got into financial difficulties during the First World War. In the appeal for donations to avert closure it was stressed how necessary it was to have a synagogue in Eimsbüttel.
This probably explains Leo Mendelson's advertisement in the 4th June 1917 edition of the Hamburger Familienblatt newspaper seeking individuals interested in establishing a provisional saynagogue. Leo Mendelson died in an accident on the 13th February 1928.

The synagogue existed at least until 1938.

In 1934 at no. 8 Oderfelder Straße.
In 1935 at no. 76 Hochallee.
From August 1936 at no. 6 Eppendorfer Baum (in the rooms of the Hamburg Zionist Organisation).
From September 1937 at no. 37 Jungfrauental (in the house of the day nursery).
