DeutschÄthiopischeStiftung

Founded in 1999 by Siegbert Uhlig, the DeutschÄthiopischeStiftung (German-Ethiopian Foundation) aims at providing support to young scholars in the Humanities and the Social Sciences from northeast Africa and Germany and at helping preserve and study the cultural heritage of the northeast African regions.

The Foundation is bound to the idea that besides material and relief support, the societies and cultures of the Horn of Africa need our cooperation for the preservation, study and improvement of their cultural heritage.

The main focus of the Foundation are:

  • Grants for students at the University of Hamburg
  • Grants for young African scholars
  • Study of African cultures and societies in collaboration with international scholars
  • Preservation of the East African heritage
  • Development of the East African studies
  • Lectureship in contemporary issues

The Foundation has received the support of personalities from the civil society, such as the late actor Sir Peter Ustinov and the former director of the United Nations Environment Programme Klaus Töpfer.
